The Obama administration’s HHS mandate has set it directly at odds with the Catholic Church and most other Christian organizations. The media have tried to frame the issue as anything but what it really is – a gross attack on religious liberty. Some have welcomed this as an opportunity to share the Church’s teaching on contraception with the culture at large, but as Russell Shaw argues below it is critical that the fundamental issue of the government’s suppression of fundamental freedoms not be lost in the shuffle.
